Cooking Lessons for English Speakers

Karugamo Kitchen Studio offers Japanese cooking lessons in English for English speaking customers. We hope that our lessons can deliver a valuable cultural experience through making and tasting Japanese food.

Three Options

We offer the following three options for you to choose from:

Temakizushi - Sushi Rolls (1 set: 2 rolls) In this lesson, we make sushi rolls that look like a flower and California rolls wrapped with barbecued beef. These attractive Japanese sushi rolls are perfect for entertaining guests. After making the sushi rolls, you can enjoy them with miso soup (free of charge). Participants receive a souvenir chopstick case made of Japanese washi paper to take home.
Okonomiyaki (1 set : 2 Okonomiyaki) We make Kansai-styled okonomiyaki that can be cooked easily at home. We use Otafuku brand okonomi sauce, a special and widely used sauce made in Hiroshima. After making the okonomikyaki in the lesson, you can enjoy it with Japanese tea. Participants receive a souvenir chopstick case made of Japanese washi paper to take home.
Wasanbon – Japanese traditional sweets (1 set : 12 wasanbon) Using wasanbon-tou (a type of sugar) that is only found in Japan, we will make wasanbon. Wasanbon are Japanese sweets, made wholly of sugar, that express the beauty of nature in Japan. After making wasanbon in the lesson, you can enjoy them with Japanese matcha green tea. Participants receive a souvenir chopstick case made of Japanese washi paper to take home.

・Fee: 3,000yen (tax included) / 1 set

・For cancellation:
Cancelation must be received at least 1 day prior to the lesson (by 4 PM). As we will be preparing an English recipe and souvenir in advance for you to take home, we cannot provide a refund for cancelations on the day of the lesson. Prior to the lesson, all communication will be done via email.

・In addition, all of the ingredients, tools and other supplies needed to make the foods at home can be purchased in our store.

Access

Take the JR Kabe line from Hiroshima city and get off at Kabe station. Go to the bus stop in front of the station and catch the bus bound for either “Imuro/Katsugi” or “Oobayashi/Yoshida”. Get off at the “Kabe kami-ichi” bus stop. Walk north a short distance and you’ll see the Docomo store building on the right (next to the supermarket, LAMU). Karugamo Kitchen Studio is on the 2nd floor of the Docomo store.
